Cairns Day 2
The day after the Great Barrier Reef, we went to a place called the Rainforestation. In short it basically was a interactive petting zoo with kangaroos, koalas, lizards, and crocodiles.
when we got there we went on a tour and we got the chance to hold a snake (did NOT do that). and then we got to touch a lizard, i put my finger on it and then the most amazing thing happened. Kangaroos were hoping around the zoo and we got to feed them. we saw little baby joeys and we got to feed them and they were so sweet and fun to play with.
after that we met a crocodile named jack the ripper, and this thing is huge. like 14 feet big. it was scary to even see him in the water and i missed it, but they fed him the day we were there, and they feed him like once every week cause he ate so much. he had a few mates and he ate all of them (and these were female mates). instead of seeing jack the ripper fed we saw another croc fed and that was still awesome. they fed him chicken and they made him like jump for it like a whole bunch of times before they let him have it. Neille was able to get a video of it.
after that awesome sight, we did what i've wanted to do since i heard about coming to australia: hold a koala bear!! it was heavy and smelly, but it was worth it. and we also got free picture with it and it is going on my desk at home. i'm so exited!
after holding the koala, we went on a tank that was built by women 60 years ago. we went on another tour of the real rain forest that is still there. it was beautiful and amazing to see what is still out there.
pictures will come soon, i promise!

Cairns Day 1
we arrived in Cairns, Australia on the 16th of February and that is when Neille's and my adventure began. We stayed in a place called Gilligans, which was the hostile we would also be the place where we would stay with the rest of AustraLearn students.
For those of you who do not know the big details, I am traveling with 60 other students through a program called Australearn. We went to Cairns to get to know the other people who are attending our uni (university) with us and to get an idea of Australian culture and such. it was an awesome experience.
Anyway, we got there a day before the group did and we got to know the area a little bit and we didn't have wi fi and so we went to internet cafes. our roommates before the group got there were a backpacker from Germany and two other backpackers from Yorkshire and it was fun to get to know people from other places and hear their stories.
the real fun began when the group got there.
The first day we went to the Great Barrier Reef and oh my goodness-it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. After about a 2 hour boat ride we arrived at stop number one and I tried scuba diving for the first time. then i went snorkeling for the second time in my life and it was the most beautiful sight i'd ever seen. the mere fact we were at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia was amazing in itself. the boat however had no air conditioning and so the ride over and back was a little overwhelming so Neille and our new friends wen to the lagoon, a place a few blocks from our hostile that is next to a crappy looking beach-kinda like a deeper baby pool.
